Our comment on the proposal to create a new offence of engaging in grossly offensive conduct in public in response to the Pusey case. The offence is unnecessary, highly ambiguous, prone to politicised decisions and may amplify offensive conduct. libertyvictoria.org.au/sites/default/… #springst

Privacy 🧵- Our joint statement with Law Institute of Victoria and Digital Rights Watch on the Health Legislation Amendment (Information Sharing) Bill 2023 was referred to several times in Vic Parliament yesterday - debate back on today. People should have the option to ‘opt out’ of the scheme #springst 1/7

What a disgrace. Deeply disappointed to see the Australian Greens buy into Labour's commitment to a police state. It's not just the justice system, this legislation undermines the rule of law. Katherine Copsey should have stood up for the separation of powers. Really.

Our joint submission with NSW Council for Civil Liberties on the deeply flawed Continuing Detention Order (CDO) regime has been referenced by the The Saturday Paper. CDOs should be abolished. They're based on an unvalidated risk assessment tool, and post-sentence detention is repugnant to the rule of law.

So great to be treated like a criminal just for shopping at your local Woolworths. Nothing like hardcore corporate surveillance to make Saturday morning grocery shopping fun. Can't wait for the deployment of private militia and random stop-and-search!
