If they saw the true investment for children and parent support at an earlier age, embed strategies & early intervention, then foundations would be stronger & could well eliminate many children struggling to regulate & prioritise the ASN children that require it the most.

Council can pay higher by 1) retaining the funding that should follow the child & 2) the additional £16m pledged by SG for paying private staff £12ph, they are only passing on 7.6%. Yet again exploiting their own needs first and still can't balance their books and be sustainable

The focus used to be nurture & care, now expectations are high, pressures of monitoring & evaluating has taken the joy out of the profession. Increased distressed behaviour from children and different parenting styles from years ago, makes it all extremley hard.

LA have their own agenda, and that is for themselves, to wriggle out of mispending budgets. Gov and audit Scotland must make them accountable to how they spend public money. They are breaching their conduct and the Nolan Principles

It will happen in Scot if Gov dont pay funding for childcare into a centralised account, LA are keeping the funding,Edinburgh council £1500 per child a year, we can only charge for under 3's,we avoid upping fees, yet sector pay is shocking & min wage increase Apr!What do we do?

I have had many owners of setting say. Scotland have had higher 2 year old ratios and they have managed so why can’t we here in England. Do wonder if any Scottish EY professionals on here can clarify. Much appreciated

Many nurseries in Scotland including myself with 4 settings, will have a floating/support member of staff, as the 1:5 can be challenging at times. Especially with the increased distressed behaviour. We also have a housekeeper to support the operation, for children and staff.

I think profit is the wrong perception. It should be expected that owners take a salary and actually not as a high as the LA get. Constant reinvestment, employers tax and NI,pension contributions and the cost of operation, should be admired.

Has anyone spoken with Scottish operators to hear their view, 1:5 for 2-3 can be extremely hard, and most will employ additional staff to support. Once again there is no serious discussion with the sector for children under 3, its all focused on discussion with 3-5 and Councils.

Can honestly say, Jen's stories brought a tear to my eyes, and wish there were more HT like her. What a better place it would be for our children and young people.

Totally, I have just shared her story with friends and I said the same. She certainly brought a tear to my eyes, and saw the person on front of me wiping hers too. We all have such a passion, to keep going and we will not give up.

It is high time Government took serious control over council spending, and scrutinised their budgets to make them accountable for spending public money on best value and not for their own benefit COSLA Accounts Commission Calum Ross Scottish Public Services Ombudsman

But making them accountable and clearer transparency on their spending is crucial. Far too many budgets have been mis spent, and Councils blame government rather than themselves
