Nearly got lost in my spam folder, but so excited to present my research on colonial smugglers at the 2023 AHA (Australia) conference! Thanks so much to Peter Hobbins for inviting me to join his panel on 'Fluid Boundaries' ⚓️ Keen to dive into Aus maritime history with y'all!
Graduation day at the University of Sydney. So proud of my honours students all graduating with Hons 1 : Javiera Scarratt Alexie Hamilton and Felix Faber - all wonderful young Australian historians writing about smuggling in Sydney, ASIO in East Timor and phosphate imperialism.
Such depressing reading: “It is a lie to say private schools take pressure off the public system. In fact, it is the opposite. Private schools take money out of public classrooms. They entrench inequality. They create and maintain privilege.” thesaturdaypaper.com.au/opinion/editor… via The Saturday Paper
What a wonderful experience this week has been! We've learnt a lot, we've laughed, and we've even danced! Thanks, as always, to the amazing Kate Kate Tapper for facilitating a illuminating and inspiring summer school. See you in a couple of weeks in Exeter for round two!
