The first Bat Mitzvah sparked a revolution of inclusion. When Judith Kaplan recited verses in SAJ's men’s section, she had no idea she would make history. Jewish Women's Archive was recently published in eJewishPhilanthropy prior to this weekend's events surrounding the 100th Anniversary of the Bat Mitzvah! #batmitzvah100 #SAJNYC ejewishphilanthropy.com/bat-mitzvah-at…
Marking a moment of inclusion & joy at SAJ-Judaism that Stands for All’s 100th anniversary of the bat mitzvah 🎉 Thanks to Rabbi Mordecai Kaplan’s momentous & feminist vision, his daughter Judith & young girls everywhere claimed their rightful and equal place within Judaism. 👏@rabbilauren
100 yrs ago, Judith Kaplan became the first bat mitzvah SAJ-Judaism that Stands for All. Beautiful to celebrate there tonight! As @RosaBLander told me, it not only opened up Jewish participation to women — it opened up & renewed Judaism itself. So grateful for what it’s added to my own Jewish life.
It was an absolute honor to be here tonight with SAJ-Judaism that Stands for All and Governor Kathy Hochul celebrating this groundbreaking moment in feminist Jewish history. A perfect transition from celebrating Queen Esther on Purim to Judith Kaplan on this historic day!
When Judith Kaplan became the first American girl to have a bat mitzvah ceremony #OnThisDay 100 years ago at SAJ-Judaism that Stands for All, it paved the way for people of all genders to mark coming-of-age in inclusive ways. Celebrate #BatMitzvahAt100 with resources & more: jwa.org/batmitzvah100

The bat mitzvah turns 100 today! On March 18, 1922, Judith Kaplan read Torah SAJ-Judaism that Stands for All. To mark the occasion, here’s a picture of my bat mitzvah party. The DJ I’m dancing with—you may recognize him from Clueless, Ant-Man, and People’s Sexiest Man Alive issue. #BatMitzvahat100
Jewish Women's Archive SAJ-Judaism that Stands for All This is such a creative idea for making history more relatable. I love it!
