Spotted these lovely #orchids when walking to Cupidstownhill, the highest point in Co. Kildare last Sat. 5th July 2025 - 2 Common Spotted Orchids (Dactylorhiza fuchsii) and a Pyramidal Orchid (Anacamptis pyramidalis). These were growing along a gravel path in a spruce plantation!

In addition to #orchids, the Sitka Spruce plantation on Cupidstownhill was full of #butterflies last Sat. 5th July 2025 with lots of dark brown Ringlets (Aphantopus hyperantus) chasing each other. Back in April there were Orange Tips and Peacock butterflies.

Another #butterfly species seen last Sat. 5th July 2025 along the main path in a Sitka Spruce plantation on Cupidstownhill, Co. Kildare, #Ireland was this lovely Green-veined White Butterfly (Pieris napi).

In Dublin 🇮🇪 the Common & Arctic Terns have fledged. The Juveniles sit on the rocks waiting for parents to feed. An opportunity for some ring reading.

Late summer butterflies After a much needed stint of nature contemplation, creativity and ocean worship, the curlew calls me back to my duties as a wandering singer!

A quick tour of the East provided the Zitting Cisticola, a Black Stork, a juvenile Cuckoo being fed and a gull, thousand times better than the film by Ridley Scott. Or is it just another wannabe Black-headed Gull. Hundreds of Black-tailed Godwits from Suffolk to Kent.
