The Carpathia arrived in #NYC & docked at Pier 54 at around 8:37pm. #Survivors were greeted by throngs of #reporters anxious for the big story, but more importantly, friends & family of many who'd been sailing on #Titanic, hopeful & terrified of who may or may not be on board.

St. Vincent’s Hospital was founded in 1849 by the Sisters of Charity of New York in Greenwich Village. It was the closest hospital to Pier 54 & was frequently used to care for injured seamen & it was here where many of #Titanic’s survivors would be sent for medical care. #NYC

#Titanic was supposed to arrive at the White Star Line’s Pier 59 in New York City. Instead, the Carpathia would arrive at Cunard’s Pier 54 with 1/3 of Titanic’s #survivors. If you look closely, #Titanic’s footprint can still be seen throughout #NYC. google.com/maps/d/u/0/edi…
