A1: science is about discovery. An authentic assignment should include that theme. My son used to say he wanted to be a scientist of chocolate because he loved it and was curious—how is it made, where does it come from naturally. #corechat

A3: I think that’s what a big piece of science is. You make predictions, test them, adjust, and then others take your work and do the same. Without peer review, students lose a piece of the “real life” application. #corechat

A2: In my classroom, I always strived to make it comfortable. I also allowed students to move around, sit where they wanted and work with whomever they chose. I think this helps to make students feel "at home" and perhaps more likely to engage in learning authentically. #corechat

A3: This is hard to answer. I feel every student might have a different answer. At the core, it would be a safe place to express yourself. The teacher would be there to guide students to ensure "expression" was not at the expense of others. #corechat

A4: Positivity is a practice that helps people cope with the reality of life. If we focus on the yuck, the hard, the impossible, then our lives will reflect that. If we focus on the good, even in the mire, then we can start to see the light. #corechat

A5: Be authentic. I sing, dance, and do some improv rap (no, I should not, but I do.). I tell stories about my life. I hold space with a student when their lives are a mess. And I come back and do it again everyday. #corechat

A1: So many. Permission to slow down; focus on SEL; and a change to our bell schedule that allows for more consistency. #corechat

A3: as an AP, I see a lot of frustration around learning new online platforms, keeping up with posting work for students who are not in the building, and health and safety protocols. #corechat

The Blended Learning model! Like others have expressed, create a menu of options, let students decide when, where and how they complete required tasks, then work individually with Ss or small groups to pique curiosity and encourage further exploration. #corechat
