Asthma: Moderate/high dose inhaled steroids - uncommonly - cause CVD, pneumonia and PEs. V difficult study to do to avoid bias. Required 2 large datasets and multiple different studies. Patients should only get the ICS dose they need! Professor Azeem Majeed atsjournals.org/doi/abs/10.116…

Fully funded PhD studentships MRC Laboratory of Medical Sciences (LMS) to start next year. One of the openings is in my team CVGenomics if cardiovascular genomics and/or data science for precision healthcare is your thing. And a fantastic line up of other opportunities if you interests lie elsewhere...

We found in 2 studies, metformin (cheap, available, oral) associated with 30% lower asthma attacks. Adding GLP-1 had 40% further effect. This was not from better glycaemic control or weight loss! Seen in T2 low & high asthma! @BoheeLEE4 Aziz Sheikh NHLI Asthma + Lung UK Research

GWASs require huge samples that are unrealistic for uncommon diseases🧬 📊KGWAS uses GNNs to integrate multi-modal functional genomic data enabling 👉2x GWAS power at 1K sample size 👉2.6X fewer samples for same number of variant associations 👉more efficient post-GWAS analyses

Abnormal oscillometry relates to airway obstruction, health status, dyspnoea and future exacerbations in COPD. However, further studies are needed to investigate how oscillometry could be integrated in monitoring and risk assessment of COPD patients. bit.ly/42xHs11
