Another way of asking the reporter’s question (“is this a hard or soft decision to retire”) is to prompt a player to discuss what factors are contributing to their retirement decision, such as performance, results, personal, physical health, financial or social factors.

I love this comeback so much. There’s always a subset (obviously not all) of sports fans or viewers who have so much to say/complain about re their team or show…yet they can’t handle when athletes express opinions about anything other than their sport.

9 times out of 10, I cry/well up w/ tears anytime I watch This Is Us. Incredibly cathartic. Makes me feel better knowing I cried over a show vs just….well, crying randomly over nothing. 🤣

Well said Mardy Fish. This a reminder that no person/group is immune to mental health struggles. A common response is “But why? They were so successful.” Money, fame, talent, even popularity is NEVER the cure & can actually exacerbate problems. May u rest in ❤️& peace Grayson.

Maybe the better question is HOW can Tua make a sound decision re his fball career. From a psych perspective, it’s helping the athlete to take off the “sport blinders” to reflect on their current values, personal & athletic goals, etc. Also leaning on his team to help…

2) Of course, associated team members may care more about the athlete vs person, so athletes should take caution as to whom they seek advice from. To play or not to play, it’s a personal decision that all struggle w/...but a topic any athlete could discuss w/ their therapist!

It hurts to watch this. Can’t imagine what she’s going through - inside & out. I am also baffled at the emphasis on trying to fix the serve & the technical details…& yet we all know the yips are very much mental. This is not just technical; she needs a performance coach.
