As a trainee, that moment when you beat yourself up on a patient case all day and someone just says exactly what you needed to hear. 🥹 Medicine is mentally, physically, emotionally challenging. Surround yourself with ppl who empathize but also push you to be better.

Anticoagulation can be confusing as a trainee. What stinks is figuring out diff AC options for Afib b/c your older adult patient can’t afford it, Medicare won’t cover it, and they’re selling personal belongings to make ends meet. I can explain medicine, I can’t explain the $ part

Today, I asked my dad how to say “mental health” in Cantonese as I’m trying to check in on them since they’re new caregivers of my gma. He didn’t know. He said “stress” and “perseverance”. I’m sure the term exists, but definitely not something talked about in our culture.

Tonight, I talked with 2 mentees, 1’s a premed applying for med school, 1’s a med student in the FM match. Next to patient care, these are the moments I look forward to and find to be so fulfilling in this #meded journey. Grateful for my mentors and humbled to be that for others.

Family medicine residency graduation today and I wouldn’t be here without the unwavering support of my refugee parents, who have blindly supported me throughout this very confusing and complicated medicine journey. After 9 years, it’s homecoming for 1 year of #hpm fellowship!
