#Romania, 1876: three uprated postal cards from Bucharest to the US, from L to R: - January - to St Louis - May - to Boston - December to New York (after rate incr to 15b). Each relates to philatelic business, as do almost all surviving late 19th century Romanian cards to the US.

Continuing my look at late 19C mail from #Romania to the US: colourful reply ½ of a reply-paid postal card, uprated with a 'Cifra' 5b stamp, to London (10 JY 93 receiver), readdressed to Boston via New York (JUL 21 transit mark). Fascinating card that cost £4 from a stamp fair!😀

#România, 1873: piece postmarked in Bucharest with 'Paris' 1½b x 10 + 10b x 3 = 45b franking, probably to pay domestic postage for a bundle of 30 newspapers @ 1½b.

#România, 1875: another way to make up a 45b franking, again probably for a bundle of 30 newspapers @ 1½b, this time using 3x10b + 3x5b 'Paris' stamps.

#România: 1872 'Paris' 1½b stamps in a block of 16 cancelled in Bucharest in 1877 and probably used to frank a packet of newspapers. Quite scarce in such large multiples.

#România, 1876 'Bucharest 1' (i.e. locally-printed) 1½b in block of 24, used in June 1877, possibly on a large packet of newspapers or periodicals. This might be the largest known used block of these stamps or even perhaps of any used Romanian stamps from the 1870s or early '80s

#România: examples of the 'Bucharest 1' 5b showing extreme variation in print quality of local printings using clichés made in France & previously used for the 1872 'Paris' stamps. Similar things happened in local printings of Greece's Large Hermes Heads and Turkey's Dulos stamps

Inspired by a short piece on a similar theme in the latest The Royal Philatelic Society London 'London Philatelist', here's another example of a 'bad certificate' from 'the Royal', this for a forged block of 4 'Bucharest 2' 15b. It's signed by A. Ronald Butler RDP & Sir John Marriott KCVO RDP among others

I’m no expert on US stamps, but I suppose this block of four Presidential Series (1938-54) (‘#Prexie’) 3c stamps are from a miss-cut booklet pane. 3c paid the basic 1st class mail rate and this value, also issued in sheets and coils, was by far the most widely-used of the series.

I don't 'really' collect US stamps, but I like the Presidential Series (1938-54) a lot. It's colourful and - for me - an education in US history. 'Prexie' afficianados will see immediately which stamps are missing from the selection shown here...#philately #stamps

An incomplete selection from the US 'Liberty' series (1954-73). There's much opportunity for specialisation in these stamps, particularly in terms of their postal usage. This discussion with ace specialist Wade E. Saadi is highly relevant and inspiring: postalmuseum.si.edu/the-liberty-se…

The 'Great Americans' 1980-99 are a philatelically complex US definitive series. 56 of 63 basic stamps shown here. Printings are distinguishable by 'varieties of tagging, perforations, gum, paper and ink color'. See Ch. 15 in 'Encyclopedia of US Stamps...' usstamps.org/committees/enc…

#Romania 1884: postal card uprated with 'Bucharest II' 5b in blue-green from Galați to #Dundee, 'Anglia', the only Romanian postal item that I've seen used to Scotland from this period. Addressee Isaac Julius Weinberg (1833-1912) was a prominent figure in Dundee's jute trade.
