Mayor Johnson says he has veto'd shotspotter ordinance....

City Corp Counsel says shotspotter is in violation of separation of powers: "Legislative branch cannot compel executive branch to act."

Johnson: "Cities all over america are canceling the (shotspotter) technology...because it has proven to be ineffective.." FOX 32 News

Johnson: "When it was brought to the city of chicago, we were told it was going to reduce violence and increase arrests. It's done neither. It's an ineffective tool."

Johnson says shotspotter ordinance is illegal. "You have to start to raise questions...that all of a sudden we don't believe that person should have the powers that every other mayor has had." FOX 32 News

I asked the mayor if he was worried that losing 33 alderpeople on this vote meant he'd have trouble passing other initiatives of his, including a difficult budget. "No," he said. FOX 32 News

Johnson on the rickety relationship he's had with City Council. "Maybe things ran smoother when they sold off the parking meters. Maybe things went smoother when they (bankrupted) the city and left me with the bill."
