Because voters want alternatives, not a constant, all powerful govt of the centre. Macron’s project to entrench the Centre propelled voters further to the Left and Right.

This week during #AntiPovertyWeek we are reflecting on the fact that poverty exists in Australia that is poverty by design, notably through working-age social security payments that sit well below the poverty line.

Nearly all the staff in the Office of Special Education have been fired as part of Trump’s sweeping layoffs. These are the people responsible for protecting the civil rights of students with disabilities and ensuring they receive an equal education. More needless cruelty on

Interesting analysis from Jeffrey Wilson on the reliance of employment growth on government-aligned sectors by state. In 2023-24 Victoria sourced the vast majority of its jobs from these sectors but still had an unemployment rate above the ex-Victoria average. Fiscal conservatism

Note that over the quarter there were 40,524 dwelling completions, it was the lowest quarterly completions since the March 2014 quarter. A terrible outcome.

Aussie dwelling completions appear to be stalling out after a frankly pathetic uptick. I would have included the Albanese government's 240k homes per year target on the graph, but its so comically far away, it would have messed with the scale of the graph.
