After successfully repairing the SPARCstation 4, boot Solaris 8 from cdrom. I still have to fix the NVRAM. #sunmicrosystems #suntember #solais #sparcstation

Last night Bryan Cantrill and I celebrated the 20th (!) anniversary of DTrace by walking through its history. Thanks to everyone who's used DTrace, ported it to various platforms, filed bugs, filed CVEs, added features, fixed bugs, shown up to dtrace.conf... youtu.be/IeUFzBBRilM

A Sun E10K was a terrible $1m router Solaris 9 as the completion of the SunOS 2.0 vision Bryan writing his last wishes on his whiteboard before (what would be a non-fatal) heliskiing trip USDT—so useful for dynamic languages—started as a way to instrument user-land locking

And finally, we announced dtrace.conf(24) (the DTrace conference)… and we totally didn’t just come up with it on the fly during the show! At the Oxide office in Emeryville, 2024, details to be determined!

I apologize to everyone I told that Sun made the /bin -> /usr/bin migration in Solaris 2.0 in 1992. While /bin is a symlink to /usr/bin in that release (and every following Solaris release), I just found that SunOS 4.0 documents the change happened in that release in 1988.
