Though to our lot temptations fall, Though pain and want, and cares annoy; The precious gospel sweetens all, And yields us med’cine, food, and joy.

Let our mutual love be fervent, Make us prevalent in prayers; Let each one esteemed Thy servant, Shun the world’s bewitching snares: Break the tempter’s fatal power, Turn the stony heart to flesh; And begin, from this good hour, To revive Thy work afresh.

While Christ's bleeding glories here Engage our wond’ring eyes; We learn our lighter cross to bear, And hasten to the skies.

Let me dwell on Golgotha, Weep and love my life away! While I see Christ on the tree Weep and bleed, and die for me! That dear blood, for sinners spilt, Shows my sin in all its guilt: Ah, my soul, He bore my load, I have slain the Lamb of GOD.

Farewell world, thy gold is dross, Now I see the bleeding cross; JESUS died to set me free From the law, and sin, and thee! He has dearly bought my soul LORD, accept, and claim the whole! To Thy will I all resign, Now, no more my own, but Thine.

God's word a light before us spreads By which our path we see; His love a banner o’er our head, From harm preserves us free. Lord, ’tis enough; I ask no more, Your blessings are divine; I envy not the worldling’s store, If CHRIST and heav’n are mine.

Have I no words? ah, think again, Words flow apace when I complain; And fill my fellow–creature’s ear With the sad tale of all my care. Were half the breath thus vainly spent, To heav’n in supplication sent; My cheerful song would oft’ner be, Hear what the LORD has done for me

Weak, indeed, we feel we are, But we know the throne of grace; And the God, who answers prayer, Helps us when we seek His face.

Our souls rejoice then to pursue The steps of Him we love; Till glory breaks upon our view In brighter worlds above.

When by faith the sinner sees A pardon bought with blood; Then he forsakes his foolish pleas, And gladly turns to God.

Precious Bible! what a treasure Does the word of God afford? All I want for life or pleasure, FOOD and MED’CINE, SHIELD and SWORD: Let the world account us poor, Having this we need no more

Shall I envy then the miser Doting on his golden store? Sure I am, or should be, wiser, I am Rich, ’tis he is Poor: JESUS gives me in his word, FOOD and MED’CINE, SHIELD and SWORD.
