Great final day and culmination of the collaborative #kelpexpedition in Olympia - thank you to the Squaxin Island Tribe and PSRF for co-hosting a great event! The work to conserve and protect kelp takes many hands.

San Juan MRC is piloting use of a new aquatic trash skimmer called a “Seabin” this summer at Deer Harbor Marina. The Seabin will capture floating debris and filter buoyant microplastics as small as two millimeters without harming marine wildlife. Photo credit: R.P. Oates

Thanks to volunteers who survey kelp by kayak for a Northwest Straits program, we know at least some of the seasonal, underwater forests in #Skagit are holding steady, while those in other areas of #PugetSound are on the decline: skagit.ws/3D8Piz5

Today, we began extensive work in Drayton Harbor to survey hotspots for removing as many invasive European green crabs as possible. This collaborative effort with Washington Department of Fish & Wildlife will take place daily this week, to make progress against this threat to native species in the Salish Sea!
