#OnThisDay 1916 Thomas Ashe & his Volunteers from the Fingal Battalion attack the RIC barracks in Ashbourne. After a five hour firefight the police finally surrendered. Ashe lost 1 man while the RIC lost 10. Ashe took roughly 80 RIC prisoners & vehicles too.

#OnThisDay 1917 The men of the 16th Irish Division & 36th Ulster Division fight side by side at the Battle of Messines. They took their objective: the village of Wytschaete. In 1914, these two groups of men were poised to fight each other over Home Rule.
