The South has three of the top four states in the nation with the most homes near nature - which creates increased wildfire risk. #DYK there is a term for this area where people live near forested lands? It’s called the wildland urban interface, a.k.a. WUI (pronounced: woo-wee).

This heat has got me like… Stay safe out there in this warm weather and make sure you are packing enough water for your hikes. It's recommended that you drink 1 cup (8 ounces) of water every 15-20 minutes. Happy hiking!

There's no wifi out here, but you will find a better connection… Looking for a digital detox? Head out camping! Cell service in the woods is low or non-existent. Always let someone know where you are going and enjoy your time with nature.

If not friend, why friend shaped? We had a special visitor at the Appalachian Ranger District today! Although cute, it serves as a good reminder that we are in the woods. This is their home, please be respectful and keep your distance around any wildlife

Help us keep you and wildlife safe! Always keep a safe distance with wildlife. Never feed or approach a wild animal. And remember, if an animal approaches you, it is your responsibility to step away and maintain a safe distance.
