Join us at Sandown Park this Friday 25 October for four fascinating BeeCraft lectures. This year's all-female lineup covers: honey bee diet and epigenetics; an engineering perspective on the power of propolis; wild bee colony simulations and honey bee nutrition.

Very little change on Friday morning with a blanket of cloud across much of the country ☁️ Cloud thick enough for drizzle in places, mainly to the west 🌧️ Best of the sunshine in northern Scotland 🌤️

There's lots of talk about the possibility of snow in the current forecast. Things will be turning colder later in the weekend, with the greatest chance of snow over high ground in the north on Sunday. Next week is more uncertain on the specifics, find out why 👇

There has been great variation in the 2024 heather crop. North Yorkshire and the New Forest seem to have fared best, but South West England and Wales certainly did not do well. Read the full heather report from correspondents around the British Isles in the November issue.

If you're not a fan of colder weather, you'll be pleased to hear temperatures are set to rise over the weekend 📈 It will be short-lived however, as temperatures return to, or slightly below, average for the new working week 📉

Crystallised honey has not 'gone off.' These two jars are from exactly the same hive. The left hand jar has been gently warmed to return it to liquid without damaging the honey. Crystallisation or granulation is caused by a higher glucose content in the nectar the bees collected.
