It’s testing season, which means all hands on deck! For the past weeks, I’ve been supporting RLA with paired passage breakout rooms. Students have compared multiple genres - poetry, correspondence, drama - analyzed author’s purpose, and sharpened their critical reading skills!

It was a packed house at #TLA25 this morning, with Irving ISD’s own Andrea Keller! She, along with Rebecca Ivey and Megan Firestone, shared insights into different types of librarianship- so interesting to hear both the similarities and the unique paths that led them there!

Fifth six weeks at DZ and JMS was full of impact and library joy! We hosted our first joint JMS/DZ library night, took a busload of students to North Texas Teen Book Festival, supported STAAR success with targeted reading lessons, and had a great launch for our new Beanstack app!

There was great energy in the library today because science was in the house! So glad to have Ms. Galvan, Ms. Lewins, and Mr. Guzman, M.Ed. 8th grade classes digging into biomes and ecosystems using IISD ‘s premium digital resources!

Research in the library continued this week! Dorothy Gentry 8th graders researched periods of technological change, while SSpears and Yolanda Holloman (M.Ed.) 6th graders investigated people who fought for important causes. Students dug into some powerful topics and asked great questions!
