We are definitely up for this. A COP Coppice may well be able to demonstrate the most carbon efficient form of woodland management, as root systems and myceliums are promoted by coppice management in ways no other woodland management system is likely to achieve.

@lovesmallwoods John Taylor @Wood_n_Water NCFed Steve Scott @KeithJonesFC Say it with Wood Scottish Woodlands Woodland Heritage Sylva Foundation Good demonstration of the value of woodland management - Coppice stools certainly regrow quickly - Arguably the main carbon benefit comes from substituting carbon intensive products with renewable forest products

@lovesmallwoods John Taylor Andrew Heald NCFed Steve Scott @KeithJonesFC Say it with Wood Scottish Woodlands Woodland Heritage Sylva Foundation How trees capture (and release) carbon, directly or indirectly, is a complex story. I think coppice management is likely to increase C sequestration compared to other or no management, similarly to how grasslands sequestrate more C when mob-grazed

@lovesmallwoods John Taylor Andrew Heald NCFed Steve Scott @KeithJonesFC Say it with Wood Scottish Woodlands Woodland Heritage Sylva Foundation I’m writing a short review on the role trees can play in the C cycle, how they capture and release GHGs and how management can effect this. Should be out in the spring edition of the @lovesmallwoods magazine

It was lovely to visit Rougham Estate during the week. There’s been a lot happening! Proper woodland management... the rain has made things slightly tricky. #woodland #tree #Sustainability #copice

The general public planting trees in their gardens will not lead to net zero. Let’s stop that myth right now. Commercial large scale planting is required and this will cost money and will require infrastructure. bbc.co.uk/news/uk-englan…

It’s great to be cutting another coupe and having time to make spiling rods, faggots and spar gads as I go. No mess to tidy up later.

The work hasn’t changed much over the years but I love looking through ‘Woodland Crafts in Britain’ by H.L.Edlin so I can appreciate modern machinery.

The #selfemployed help will take time to come through. Please ensure you make payments to small and self-employed contractors. Ask the big guys for payment holidays, they should survive. Your small #contractors, on whom you will continue to depend in future, may not.
