BREAKING: Hunter College Senate votes in favor of screening Israelism after HunterPresident Ann Kirschner cancels screening yesterday Kirshner is trying to censor Jewish voices, while falsely claiming that such censorship projects Jews 🧵 1/15

Over the past days, there has been a malicious and defamatory smear campaign against our film ISRAELISM, resulting in the cancellation of a screening at Hunter College, which was supposed to take place last night. 2/15

We have just found out that in response, the Hunter Senate has courageously voted to reverse this decision, and demand that Hunter screen Israelism. 3/15

In Hunter President Ann Kirschner’s statement, she says ‘We seek constructive dialog that avoids targeting any students, faculty, or staff based on their identity: the essence of bigotry.’ 4/15

She goes on to say ‘ In the current climate, we seek to balance our commitment to free speech and academic freedom with the danger of antisemitic and divisive rhetoric.’ 5/15

Ann Kirschner publicly stated that she has not seen the film, and her statements which associate us with bigotry and antisemitism are not only deeply offensive to us as Jews whose families have fled violent antisemitism, but also absurd and defamatory. 6/15

Anne Boyer has resigned as the poetry editor of the New York Times magazine: “Because our status quo is self-expression, sometimes all artists have left is to refuse. So I refuse.”

Perhaps I’m missing something but i’m pretty sure the open and brazen antisemitism in recent days from right wing media figures with huge followings, like Kirk, Tucker Carlson, and Elon Musk, should be a bigger story. Or is everyone only focusing on college students on campuses?
