Proton “snow” visible in COR as a strong SEP event is in-progress. This may be the first time this cycle we have seen the 100 MeV protons cross 10 pfu, speaking to how energetic this event truly is. These protons can be dangerous to satellites, polar aviation, & astronauts.

Tonight's #aurora, as seen from near Mitchell's Bay, Ontario. Bit of a drive to get out from under the cloud, but that's about as solid a G3-4 as you'll see. Colour was nicely visible for a bit, very deep red.

Earlier this week the Aurora Borealis painted the sky with beautiful shades of green and red. The Earth was in the path of a powerful Coronal Mass Ejection from our Sun and these high energy particles lit up the oxygen in our upper atmosphere. What an awesome natural display!

Well, I'm off to Philadelphia. It's not what I had in mind when I booked a direct flight to Chicago - but that got cancelled. Hoping the second leg of tonight's travels is without issue. 🛫
