In light of denials of Russians that they commit war crimes in Ukraine, I share again what was probably the worst day of my life, two years ago, when I witnessed several exhumations among the 447 tortured bodies of civilians & soldiers executed by Russian in Izium. #RussiansatWar

When Yaroslav Bazylevych was burying his wife and all three daughters killed by a Russian missile in Lviv, Russian director Anastasia Trofimova, known for having filmed 11 documentaries for RT, advocated humanizing RU army in her Russians at War movie in Venice.

A tribute to our dear friend and colleague, David. An amazing storyteller, interviewer, and presenter. He was a champion of our reporting on Ukraine. Our odd game of chess and chats about cricket will be fondly remembered. podcasts.apple.com/gb/podcast/ukr…

It was different when Chancellor saw Bucha with his own eyes back in 2022. Since then, there have been new Buchas left in almost every Ukrainian town Russian army gets to occupy. Too much time has passed and those Bucha memories have probably faded by now.

Trofimova’s bio on TIFF. No mention she has six years of work experience at Russia Today, the primary Russian propaganda corporation sanctioned in Canada. They are hiding this on purpose, as RT has played a significant role in undermining Ukraine, and her film is biased.

Opinion: Anastasia Trofimova’s controversial film skirts around questions of Ukrainian humanity and suffering, the agency of Russian soldiers and her own documentary process, Dr. Ian Garner writes. themoscowtimes.com/2024/09/10/in-…

Canadian public money should not be used to support the production or screening of media that attempts to whitewash Russia’s war crimes. Ukrainians are fighting for their sovereignty and for democracy—there can be no moral equivalency in this conflict.

A slap in the face of millions of Ukrainians directly affected by Russia's war against their homeland. A case study on how Russia's propaganda casually weaponizes core human values such as freedom of speech, using them to whitewash the most horrendous war crimes.

It’s so sad to have such a level of communication about the elephant in the room - Russia’s cruel war on Ukraine - and instead of openly standing up for what is right, to back sugarcoating the war’s unjustness and ugliness by branding attempts to do that as an example of bravery

Speaking of Nazis. The son of Ukrainian Chief Rabbi was laid to rest today. Matityagi (Anton) Samborskyi was killed on the frontline while defending his country from the Russian army, the one that the author of the movie would love the world to 'humanize', as she puts it.

Spartz originally comes from Chernihiv oblast which was partially occupied by Russia in February-March 2022. Initially, she supported providing aid to Ukraine. A few months later, she sided with MAGA and became one of the loudest voices calling to block military aid to Ukraine.

Doesn't seem like Toronto police were aware of any threats. "In a statement to CBC, the Toronto Police Service said the decision to pause screenings was made independently by event organizers, and not based on any recommendation from Toronto Police" cbc.ca/news/entertain…

People who peacefully protest about a film: very violent affront to democracy Making a sympathetic film about Russians brutalizing Ukraine: 100% fine A statement that makes no sense on any level.

The film festival hasn't yet backed up its claims about the 'threats' it claims it has been facing. Police ruled out their involvement in TIFF's decision to suspend the Russians at War screenings.
