Good news! @mastprogram shows that while the duodenal #microbiome of those who smoke changes, ex-smokers have a microbial pattern more similar to those who never smoked! Our data is published in Scientific Reports-rdcu.be/cLkw8 BTW-better just not to smoke, like ever(my PSA!)

Small but mighty! This is a video of a killer T cell of the immune system destroying a monstrous ovarian cancer cell. I recently captured this data on a spinning disc confocal microscope.

Super important from #REIMAGINE study to assess small bowel microbiome. You must use a protected catheter. You must get both free fluid and mucus (viscous). You must break the mucus before sequencing. Years of work to get this validated.

Love this poster at #DDW2023 and Digestive Disease Week. “Physician Scientists or Celebrities? Kardashian Index of Gastroenterologists” Lead author: Ugonabo Onyinye Love to see Mayo Clinic Gastroenterology & Hepatology leading the way! Perhaps the “or” should be an “and/or”? 🤷🏻‍♀️ I know plenty who are both! 🌟

Excited to see this new tech from #DDW2023 via Jan Král - a capsule that can be swallowed at home to take endoscopic images of the GI tract. What do people think of it?

Big take away from #DDW2023. The gut is connected to everything a human is, does, and goes through. What people do and go through changes the gut, the immune system, and the microbiome. We need to work from every angle to give a person’s gut the best care! #wholepersoncare

Today Juliana from our MAST Research Program from Cedars-Sinai Academic Medicine presents the impact of CdtB toxin. This toxin from food poisoning leads to #SIBO in animals that is almost exactly what we see in humans. Hydrogen producers go up. Hydrogen sulfide producers go up. And the host markers link

Fascinating new preprint on bioRxiv tackles a whale of a question: Whales are huge. So why don’t they get a ton of cancers? biorxiv.org/content/10.110…

This is a great article featuring Ruchi Mathur MD from MAST Research Program Cedars-Sinai Academic Medicine highlighting her and the teams (Gabriela Leite, PhD et al) expertise on aging and the #microbiome. So much more to come on #microbiome from MAST very soon. inverse.com/health/centena…

In 1992 scientist thought that 4% of all species on belonged to bacteria and 73% to animals. But in 2017 thanks to all the DNA sequencing data scientists discovered that 78% of all the species on our planet belong to Bacteria and only 7% to animals? wienslab.com/Publications_f…

In 2016, I reported concerns about papers published in Springer Nature's Oncogene Journal. I sent a reminder in 2019. I sent another reminder two weeks ago. Their senior publishing editor just wrote me back saying that the investigation is still ongoing. 😭😭😭😭😭

Very excited to finally have my PROMOTe trial paper out in Nature Communications! We showed that a prebiotic food supplement can improve cognition versus placebo. The gut microbiome holds huge promise as a therapeutic target for age-associated morbidity. nature.com/articles/s4146…
