A family facing homelessness reached out at least three times to Detroit's homeless response team before two children froze to death in a van in a casino parking structure detroitnews.com/story/news/loc…

Fremont CA has passed a measure banning homeless people from existing in public - they'll face citation and jail. They also have criminalized anyone HELPING people living in these camps. We're headed down a dark road where helping your unhoused neighbors is prohibited.

It's pouring rain in LA - so bad that people's tents are collapsing. In a healthy society, there would be warming centers every couple blocks, with vans driving around taking people there, but instead, there is nothing. Just volunteers giving out tarp and tents until we run out.

LA was still conducting sweeps while it was pouring rain yesterday. I can't fathom how people who take tents and blankets from people during a storm sleep at night. This is all just state sponsored torture + murder for the crime of being too poor to afford housing.

the national parks system makes up about 0.004% of the federal budget and is (by far) the best thing american government has ever achieved. the decision to destroy the crown jewels of our country to save what amounts to effectively no money is fucking insane

Harm reduction isn’t about nudging people toward abstinence—it’s about rejecting the idea that drug use makes someone disposable in the first place.

The #1 group becoming homeless for the first time is the elderly. This is WITH Social Security, which doesn't even pay for a 1bd apt. in most of the US. Getting rid of that program that people have paid into their whole lives would be death for the poorest elderly ppl.

Cutting off all aid and supplies to an entire population is collective punishment—blatantly inhumane and a direct violation of international law.

In my years as a civil rights lawyer, I’ve never seen a more clear cut First Amendment violation, or a more flagrant government declaration of intent to violate blackletter law. Part of the point here is to dare the courts to uphold longstanding precedent.

We must find a positive form if action: first learn, read, understand more so you can teach others. Decolonisation, liberation, justice begin with learning. Read the colonised. Learn from the colonised. That is who keep hope alive despite the coloniser’s violence.

derek is welcome to tweet me to death for saying this but the thing you gotta remember when referring to Dr. King’s words and example re: non-violent protest is they still murdered him for it.

I live in LA and there are people sleeping in their own beds tonight instead of a detention center not because of cardboard protest signs but because a few folks lobbed rocks at ICE vehicles until they shit their pants and ran away
