Looking for ways to engage students and make DPA meaningful? Have students create and lead the lesson plan, of course! Afterwards, peers evaluate each other’s lessons and provide valuable feedback. Best of all, they have fun in the process!

Today’s Earth Day at CRB was fantastic! The sun was shining and everyone did their part. From pulling weeds to picking up garbage and from tossing seed bombs into the naturalization site to enjoying outdoor play, we showed CRB has a big ❤️ for the environment.

What. A. Day! Our CEO Marc biked over 100 km today through Halton to raise awareness and funds to help students of the HDSB with basic necessities and learning opportunities. Along the way it was wonderful to meet with a few of the schools who are fundraising for #HLFMonth!

Grade 5/6 students using our Outdoor Learning kits to plan, organize, and design a Geocache activity. They loved using the tools in the kits - especially the binoculars, compasses, and measuring tapes!

We’re balling for Cricket! We were so happy for good weather this week to begin our Cricket unit in Phys. Ed. We started by practicing balling and hitting in the gym. Then we played Kanga Cricket outside. ❤️ Lucky for us, we have lots of students who already know how to play!

We have been working on our geometry, measurement, and spatial sense skills. Small groups started by recording what they already knew about the attributes of different quadrilaterals. Then students did a gallery walk to affirm, add on, or challenge each other’s understandings.

Grade 6 students recently completed an inquiry project on Canadian settlement groups from the 1800s to present time. They created magazine articles as their media product. Then students had their peers review and take notes about what they learned.

After watching ‘The Story of Us’ and reading through the textbook to take personal notes, Grade 5 students used the fishbone graphic organizer to analyse aspects of early interrelationships between First Nations and Europeans in New France.

Our Grade 5 and 6 students are working through a new unit - learning to care for the environment. This is connected to our multi-year plan around being environmental stewards. We are learning how to plant flowers and vegetables - both outside and inside!

On Monday, CRB had their final HOUSES event of the school year. It was busy! Three periods of movement activities, art tasks and a very special Geocache task. What made it special? Well, our class planned, designed, and built all the Geocache boxes and clues. Way to go class!
