SUMMARY • Success is fragile—failure is a constant threat. • We can mitigate its negative effects by pre-empting, reframing, and reattributing it. • Over time, repeated success can eventually lead to a scholarly identity, which is the ultimate learner’s mindset. 👊

Upon my return as HOD, I am really tempted to introduce a 4 week ‘empty’ enquiry for teachers to teach a period/topic of their passion/choice, after the end of year assessment otherwise known as a ‘Passion Enquiry’. This would be positioned in summer term B for year 9’s.

Our year 4 scientists have been busy investigating the impact distance has on sound. Thank you to Mrs Rashid for loaning us sound meters🤩 Here is a riddle for you: if a tree falls and no one is around to hear it, does it make a sound? *hint* ask anyone in year 4 !

I love Fridays…especially when Friday happens to be #NationalSpaceDay! It’s a great day to recognize where we’ve been and what we’ve achieved – but to also be inspired by new discoveries and excited for what remains to be learned. We have a wonderful journey ahead!

Maybe, instead of National Service for 18 year olds they should introduce national service for MPs. They all have to do several weeks volunteering in a school, GP, hospital, care home, social care and police within their first 12 months in office.

If you haven’t yet done a Y11 or Y13 exit survey then this is your sign to make something on Forms and send it out. Such useful and considered feedback.

You know your school family have done something right when every Yr 10 kid is revising with a eery quietness & focus without you telling them to. They'll be the best yr11s I will have taught in 21 yrs.

New scientific ideas never spring from a communal body, however organized, but rather from the head of an individually inspired researcher who struggles with his problems in lonely thought and unites all his thought on one single point which is his whole worldfor the moment. -

After engaging in numerous coaching conversations with headteachers in recent weeks, I have reached a firm conclusion: If you do not currently work in a school, you truly have no idea about the extent of the challenges we are facing.

I've been struggling with a yr 8 class. Behaviour, I tried it all. 20+ years teaching, thinking they had defeated me. Suddenly! An epiphany in the form of post-it notes. They're getting better and I can finally enjoy teaching THAT class.
