Does Day 18 of our calendar look more like a cute penguin or a polar bear? What you're looking at here is resonant inelastic x-ray scattering on Bi2Sr2CaCu2O8+δ, from the below article. Thanks to Cissy Suen for finding the art inside it! nature.com/articles/s4146…

For Day 22, "Nanogami" is what we call this intriguing structure. Our goal was to create a rigid MOF (Metal-Organic Framework). Instead, we discovered something unexpected: crystals that unfold like a piece of art, resembling the delicate folds of origami. By Esengul Ciftci⌬.

For Day 24, the final day of our calendar, we have this wonderful cookie of the MPI logo, created last year by one of our PhD students, Kristina Gjorgjevikj.

A few weeks ago we had our annual ping pong tournament between us and Intelligent Systems! 🏓 32 participants, an all-day event, and plenty of enthusiastic viewers made it a blast. Huge thanks to Michael Wied & Jörg Eisfeld for organizing!

Great to host our colleague Esengul Ciftci⌬ from Max Planck Institute for Solid State Research! ✨ Engaging discussions on cutting-edge research made this visit truly inspiring. Looking forward to more opportunities to work together! 🍀

The International Ph.D. Program in Quantum Materials connects University of British Columbia, Stewart Blusson Quantum Matter Institute, Uni Stuttgart, and ourselves, offering students a collaborative, cutting-edge education in quantum materials and devices, taking place across two countries. 🇨🇦🇩🇪 qmi.ubc.ca/programs/inter…

In collaboration with Stewart Blusson Quantum Matter Institute & Uni Stuttgart, we're extending our Joint PhD program! This enables dual doctorates, cutting-edge research, and global mobility for young scientists. Renewed just in time for 2025: Year of Quantum Science! Learn more at: fkf.mpg.de/8637025/2025_0…
