During the early years of the Apollo program, Wise held a position at NASA headquarters as the Apollo chief scientist. Wise's role at that time is the closest to Bleacher’s current position, chief exploration scientist at NASA. youtube.com/watch?v=sULgas…

Wise actually left NASA because he wanted to get back into doing field work, and he advised Bleacher: “You're going to be looking up at the stars, but never forget your dirty field boots.” 🥾

#CAPSTONE just captured its first image of the Moon! Oh, and it also tested a navigation technology akin to Earth’s GPS for the first time in May, advancing a capability that could help future space missions more efficiently navigate at the Moon. More>> go.nasa.gov/3Oo3g8d

Congrats to @BlueOrigin on their selection as the #Artemis V human landing system (HLS) provider. Adding Blue Origin will allow NASA to pursue concurrent paths for HLS development, helping us meet the need for long-term access to the Moon's surface. go.nasa.gov/41Rep4n

Fantastic work from NASA Technology's CAPSTONE CubeSat. The satellite has successfully flown for six months in the near-rectilinear halo orbit we’ll use for ARCHIVED: Gateway Lunar Space Station. Additionally, it's taken its first lunar images and tested navigation technology. go.nasa.gov/3WoMKqo

Star trails taken with orbital #astrophotography show passage of time, but with the right setup a snapshot of an object in time, usually motionless relative to camera, can be fixed into view. This photo I call "Wings" demonstrates this effect with the International Space Station radiators.

Who wants to go for a spin? When planning human missions to Mars, we recognize astronauts will need time to adjust to Martian gravity after landing. One way we can help figure out how much time they'll need is using simulators like the U.S. Navy's Kraken: go.nasa.gov/3Oz6Nkk

Apollo 17's Harrison Schmitt said of the LRV, “Without it, the major scientific discoveries of Apollo 15, 16, and 17 would not have been possible..." LTV will enable incredible science and be capable of remote operations when the crew is away. We're seeking a new lunar rover. 👇

Astronaut Frank Rubio has hit 300 days on International Space Station! Since on station Rubio has stepped out into space on multiple spacewalks, deployed CubeSats, tended to orbital tomatoes, conducted combustion experiments, and so much more. Congratulations, Dr. Rubio!

I had the honor of sitting with Gene at the National Aviation Hall of Fame dinner in 2015 when he was enshrined as a leader, engineer, and innovator. "Legend" barely begins to sum up who he is and the lasting impacts he has had on the success of the American space program. Happy
