To state the obvious, a 25% tariff on Mexico and Canada and a 10% tariff on China, if sustained, would be a massive shock -- a much bigger move in one weekend than all the trade action that Trump took in his first term 1/x

Tariff EO is not on WH website yet, but here are the details per the Financial Times. 1) 25% tariffs on ALL imports from Canada & Mexico 2) Additional 10% tariffs on imports from China. 3) Trump invoked IEEPA to impose tariffs. 4) EO provides for increased tariffs if countries retaliate.

For the journalists out there, those numbers are not tariffs. The European Union, e.g., has weighted average tariff rates of ~ 3% and arguably lower on US goods. So they are clearly including VATs and who knows what else?? This false reciprocity is nonsense. For more, see:
