"I do not find the evidence of EM to be credible or reliable" - Justice Maria Carroccia Our justice system is fucking broken.

Sick to my stomach reading about how the judge says EM's testimony is unreliable especially when Brett Howden literally said he left the room because of how uncomfortable he was hearing EM cry from being slapped so loudly and then him conveniently not remembering saying that.

EM was torn apart for days on the stand in an attempt to discredit her while only one of the alleged perpetrators had to testify. No woman would go through that if it didn’t happen. Women now are going to be even less likely to report. Shameful decision.

That her text messages were admissible but Howden’s weren’t was a sign of how stacked against EM this was. Believe survivors.

The way all of us already know how this is going to end is what makes it so painfully familiar. Wishing EM all the love and support in the world.

Heart hurts for EM today. I understand that the onus of proof was not met. That doesn’t make her story untrue. She was put through the wringer with the victim blaming during the trial. I fear it will deter other SA victims from coming forward in future.

I dread the seemingly inevitable news of those five guys getting contracts with NHL teams, but mostly just feel sick for EM. Having to re-live all of this has to be a nonstop nightmare for her. I hope she's feeling the love people are sending her way.

EM, we believe you. Coercion, control, and power dynamics are a reality. For far too long, men have gotten away with sexually abusive practices. Shame on our justice system for continuously re-victimizing survivors. Only men can change their violent behaviors.

I believe EM. I think she is incredible. It is the process that sexually abused women endure that’s not credible. EM deserved better. EM deserved to be believed.
