Here’s the good news: we’re all on the “naughty list” and that’s precisely why Jesus came bearing the gifts he does. The stories we tell matter. One is the beauty of grace; the other is more of the same.

Abram was 75 years old when God called him to leave his home and travel to the Promised land. We are never too old to be called by God to entirely new adventures!

Pharaoh’s responses to the plagues: 1-No attention paid 2-Weak promises of change 3-Shallow confession 4-Offers of compromise 5-Pleas to eliminate the consequences 6-Anger over God’s judgment Does any of this seem painfully similar to dealing with an addict or an abuser?

A community of people that, in the midst of all the pain and sorrow and wickedness in the world, is continually praising God is the first obvious result of living by another story than the one the world lives by.

I more and more find the precious part of each day to be the thirty or forty minutes I spend each morning before breakfast with the Bible. All the rest of the day I am bombarded with the stories that the world is telling about itself.

All of us are specialists in crucifying others to save ourselves. Jesus, instead, allowed himself to be crucified, to teach us not to shift evil onto others. #Lent

This. I don’t always do it but when I do, it’s so powerful. Also when you pray the Lord’s Prayer and ask for your daily bread (knowing you already have two loaves), pray for those who are hungry.

In the gospel of Luke, the prodigal son doesn't return home because of a renewed love for his father. He comes back home simply to survive because he ran out of money and is starving. And his father is perfectly fine with that. Just come home. God just wants you home.
