Family doctors are spending up to 19 hrs per week on clerical work. This administrative burden takes away much needed time that should be spent on direct patient care. Currently, more than 2.2M Ontarians are without a family doctor - including at least 93K living in #Scarborough.

Ontario's family docs are facing an overwhelming amount of admin burden. When family docs are spending time on paperwork & emails, they aren't able to spend time with their patients. Having a family doc is important at all stages of life, but it’s crucial for kids.

Terrific summary by Michael Kolber et al Canadian Family Physician on the value of family medicine “For every additional 10 family MDs per 100,000 population, there are 15 fewer deaths, 40 fewer hospitalizations & an average increase in life expectancy of 52 days” cfp.ca/content/69/4/2….

More than 44K people in the Durham region are without a family doctor & as MatthewSchurterMD points out, “with all the early retirements from burnout and from administrative burden...unfortunately, the problem will probably get worse before it gets better.” durhamregion.com/news/estimated…

There are already 2.3 million Ontarians who do not have a family doctor. Forecast shows that will only get worse. There is still time to change course and reverse this disturbing trend—but it will require urgent action from the Ontario government. bit.ly/45Jaqcb
