Thank you Ghana Cocoa Board for a productive meeting. World Cocoa Foundation is delighted to support the 2021 Female Most Enterprising Cocoa Farmer. Empowered women are formidable catalysts for sustainable community development. x.com/ghcocobod/stat…

Feel incredibly privileged to have meet both a cocoa farmer and the Prime Minister of Côte d’Ivoire, Patrick Achi during my visit to West Africa. A humbling experience on both accounts.

A simple question. Can there be a sustainable cocoa supply chain without addressing farmer poverty? Of course not. So let’s address it front and centre.

Martin Short (@martinwshort) 's Twitter Profile Photo

When traceability protocols are rolled out in the cocoa supply chain let’s make sure that this positively impacts the price of cocoa for those farmers that have changed behaviour. Let’s make sure that there is a substantial price difference between ‘good’ and ‘bad’ Cocoa.

Looking forward to the next EU-AU Summit and discussions on addressing cocoa farmer poverty. We won’t solve deforestation or child labor without decisive action on poverty. euractiv.com/section/africa…

An excellent overview of the challenges we face and why we must put farmer #poverty at the core. Supply management is also needed to guarantee that higher prices ensure that there is no need for child labour and further deforestation #CocoaSustainability ow.ly/xUvU50HELnj

I welcome the launch of Nestlé's income accelerator. Any advancement that puts the welfare of the #cocoa farmer front and centre is worth applauding. Remember - you can change people's behaviour by how you compensate them. ow.ly/J4ZH50HFVQ8

I'm honoured to join ETP at such an exciting time in our evolution. The sector is facing complex challenges and changes – including poverty, gender-based violence, and embedding HREDD into business practices. #tea #hrdd #poverty bit.ly/3VXhdMH

Great discussions being held at the EATTA 6th African Tea Convention in Kigali. Well attended by Ministers from Rwanda as well as Kenya and Uganda. Poverty still a major issue and the cause of so many ills that plague the supply chain in tea.

Martin Short (@martinwshort) 's Twitter Profile Photo

The tea business model is predicated on an endless supply of cheap labour in producing countries. My belief is that this is a totally flawed thought process.

Martin Short (@martinwshort) 's Twitter Profile Photo

Tea prices have hardly moved in decades Yet still there is a drive to irrationally continue to produce significantly more tea than can be consumed. This is not sustainable. Sadly markets can continue to be irrational longer than farmers can remain solvent. #AfricaTeaConvention

Great conference #AfricaTeaConvention . We at ETP are pleased to play our part in the six countries where we undertake programmatic work. Worth mentioning again that ETP is NOT a standards body and we do not Certify. We leave that to the experts!! #tea #HREDD #poverty
