Twice in TV interviews this morning the Chancellor Rachel Reeves has been asked why she was happy to meet billionaires in Davos to listen to (and then act on) their concerns about the Budget, but has consistently refused to meet Britain’s farmers. It’s an excellent question …

Rachel Reeves has completely ignored the consequences of this disastrous policy. This will place untold pressure on family businesses that although in many cases live on way less than the minimum wage, continue to put food on the table of the masses. #stopthefamilyfarmtax

Don’t think there was any CEO from agriculture there? The ONE and ONLY industry we cannot live without. Yet the current policy your chancellor has proposed will compromise our ability to not only grow, but to feed ourselves. Unbelievable, or is it?

On his first outing as President, Andrew Connon is in London, supporting UK farmers in their rally against proposed inheritance tax changes. The President is there on behalf of NFU Scotland, highlighting our strong opposition to the tax. - #StopTheFamilyFarmTax

Wow, how’s it possible to believe any of this? Given the amount of U turns, back tracking and down right lies we heard before the 4th of July, the last party we need in Scotland is one that doesn’t care about those who feed us and look after our environment. Sorry Anas, no

So, his next move is a self destructive trade war with tariffs. This idiot’s dangerous ego has now resulted in agricultural products from the U.S. now facing tariffs. We must make sure we are NOT the fall guy accepting any excess products that now have no market.

I think one of the best things DEFRA could do to help farm profitability is support NFU Scotland calls for the IHT proposals to be paused pending the outcome of Minette’s review Farmers Guardian

All this talk about migration is misguided. It’s not the people who are working hard and paying taxes that are the problem, it’s the free loaders that cost us (including our own) that the focus should be on. Without foreign labour for fruit and veg, these shelves will be empty.

Whilst there’s lots to like about the new trade ‘deals’ agreed by UK Gov, the narrative being pushed on ‘cheaper food’ is highly concerning and in my view irresponsible. The UK already has lowest food prices in EU and it’s our farmers who take the brunt - there’s no more to give

Sadly after 20+ years with a minimum of 3 pairs of Lapwings in this field, they are gone. Badger sets in the next field and all ground nesting birds have disappeared. We need to discuss this biodiversity loss before the poor birds are gone for good. RSPB Scotland NFU Scotland
