The great Buck O’Neil — player, manager, coach, scout and, perhaps most important, the man who brought the Negro Leagues to life for generations with his rich storytelling — has been elected to the National Baseball Hall of Fame. Incredibly long overdue. He was the best of us.

The establishment recognized Buck O'Neil was a Hall of Famer too late for him to enjoy it, just as they acknowledged he should be permitted to play too late for him to get the chance. Buck always graciously said "I was right on time". It's just that everyone else was too late.
