GPs’ best work is invisible And also complicated My patient’s ‘simple task’ involved check of multiple CV risks with a side of erectile dysfunction, 2 ophthalmologists, insomnia and benzo, flu and COVID vaccs. 8 scripts, 1 referral

My reception staff are trained: NO fit-ins for "just a script". They can request a script to be done by their usual GP without a consult IF appropriate. And they can have an appointment. #neverJUSTascript

GPs are in the business of fireproofing, through preventive medicine. Like dust that hasn’t settled, it is by definition almost invisible. Primary preventive care is most visible in its absence, when it has failed to be provided or heeded, and people become ill.”

Matt Masel (@maselmatt) 's Twitter Profile Photo

And more evidence GP saves lives & money…“ It is likely that some preventable condition retrievals might be avoided if full coverage with benchmarked numbers of rural generalist GPs in a GP-led primary health team was provided in remote communities.” rrh.org.au/landing/newart…

On the subject of the $33 mill investment in Innowell. Innowell's budget would have funded me for 210 YEARS to see 40 pts a week. This is what the govt spends MH money on btw. GPs see 2.3 mill MH patients a year for 8% of the MH budget. That's most of them theguardian.com/australia-news…

If you’re over 40yo, on average, you’ll need to see a GP 7x per year In 2019–2020, there were 43 million Medicare claims for unreferred GP attendances for people aged 65 and over. Let’s fund continuity and support Primary Care that supports us. Rural Doctors Tas Mark Butler MP

There are not enough provider/practitioners to make a difference at the ballot box. Patients' massed voices are the only thing that gets attention and provokes change
