I wish schools knew this. Unless you have a child shouting out inappropriately or running around the classroom ADHD is entirely dismissed and diagnosis is next to impossible without school agreeing.

Carnegie Centre of Excellence for MH in Schools Research has shown (Connelly et al 2023) pupils who have school attendance difficulties are 92.1% neurodivergent and 83.4% autistic. And given 80% of autistic girls remain unrecognised at 18 probably even higher. Understanding and accommodating neurodivergency is what's needed

Yes. It’s the silent compliant kids going pop in their 10s of 1000s. That’s who we’re seeing in persistent absence data.

With stats like this why are children with attendance difficulties not immediately sent for assessment for autism/ adhd etc?

Teachers often say there needs to be more external support for children with school issues but some then seem totally dismissive of what psychologists tell them. I wonder how they think psychological support actually works? If they can’t work together then there is no hope.
