Steve Barclay wrongly claiming all nurses have 33+ days annual leave per year. 33 days is the maximum A/L entitlement after you’ve worked in NHS for >10 years.

Louis Everett Cecelia Bellomy Parker Given that 80% of autistic girls remain undiagnosed by the age of 18, statistics suggest that your (and all other schools) pastoral staff and SLT do not know students as well as you think, and the forced reply is really toxic for neurodivergent students, whether diagnosed or not.

Could Mark Harper or Department for Transport explain to the lay public how disabled people would be able to access trains if all station staff and guards were removed in favour of driver only trains? Rather my travel disrupted for a few days than a whole lifetime for some!

Most of the parcels that have been arriving almost daily for the last month (all next day delivery) remain unwrapped on the teens bedroom floor. Only two Xmas cards written, not delivered, rest remain blank. It won’t matter, we are together and happy. Happy #adhd Christmas!! 🎄

Why isn’t this leading the headlines at every bulletin? When did we stop caring about this? Everyone you ask tells you this is the worst it has ever been (and 2020 wasn’t a walk in the park but this is worse!). BBC Radio 5 Live BBC News (UK) ITV News

I wish schools knew this. Unless you have a child shouting out inappropriately or running around the classroom ADHD is entirely dismissed and diagnosis is next to impossible without school agreeing.

Introverted, quiet and *always* polite students who want to do well get the least attention in our education system. Often the invisible majority. How is that fair?

My Twitter feed is full of either tweets about absence levels in school, or schools unable to recruit/retain teachers. Are these both symptoms of the same issue with education? The only difference being teachers can choose to leave but pupils can’t.

A little post on female masking in primary education. Primary schools operate on one teacher ALL year. With girls with autism and ADHD they often (not always) can mask and cope. When secondary school hits, can’t. And becomes school refusal. It isn’t. Is undiagnosed SENd

Am I alone in thinking that it’s awful for an ex NHS CEO to demean almost the entire amazing MDT workforce as “just workers”? Appealing take that shows everything wrong with some in NHS leadership positions.

So kids with illness that can affect learning being encouraged to attend school as all lost learning is a disaster but kids with some nail polish on the day after a party that doesn’t affect learning in the slightest sent home? Mixed messaging!! Gillian Keegan 🤦🏻‍♀️

Daughter first stopped attending in year 8 after years of battles/anxiety/upset invisible to school. Great thread 👇🏼

Autistic Girls Network (@autisticgirls_) 's Twitter Profile Photo

Carnegie Centre of Excellence for MH in Schools Research has shown (Connelly et al 2023) pupils who have school attendance difficulties are 92.1% neurodivergent and 83.4% autistic. And given 80% of autistic girls remain unrecognised at 18 probably even higher. Understanding and accommodating neurodivergency is what's needed

Yes. It’s the silent compliant kids going pop in their 10s of 1000s. That’s who we’re seeing in persistent absence data.

Sadie Lynch (@lycheelynchy) 's Twitter Profile Photo

With stats like this why are children with attendance difficulties not immediately sent for assessment for autism/ adhd etc?

Sadie Lynch (@lycheelynchy) 's Twitter Profile Photo

Teachers often say there needs to be more external support for children with school issues but some then seem totally dismissive of what psychologists tell them. I wonder how they think psychological support actually works? If they can’t work together then there is no hope.
