Mission accomplished on a cold, blowy Wednesday ~ two Fisher's Estuarine Moths emerged on the hog's fennel & gave wonderful views. We've waited a long time to see this nationally rare, restricted-range moth & it was a proper buzz when we saw them. Again, thx to James Hunter.

Today's Bockhill visit was far more rewarding than in 2009! In a freshening wind, the early signs weren't good ~ unfamiliar site, no one around, big bushes! But we pinned down the super 1w Red-backed Shrike late on & it was rather fine. Thx to Nige Jarman for local info & tips👌

Very cool night back at CMO HQ last night but a lovely Satellite (bom, bom, bom...) Was a new species for the year here. An inky Black Rustic, a suitably flicky Mallow & an emerald-dusted Green-brindled Crescent made up the autumnal selection... #cleymothobs #mothsmatter

Last night I said to Lynnette that I'd really like to see a NFG moth this morning (never expecting anything to appear tho'). Amazingly, there *was* a "bingo!" moment when Lynnette found this gorgeous micro, Hypsopygia costalis (Gold Triangle) in the actinic. Scenes. #cleymothobs

A flurry of early action at CMO last night, which fell away as the temperature dropped. Two NFY species were nice bonuses: a super Feathered Thorn, two subtle November Moths (agg). Also in the mix an active Grey Shoulder-knot & hideaway Delicate. Cheers Nige Jarman! #cleymothobs

A lovely late addition to the CMO garden list as the 2024 mothing year begins to draw to a close ~ our 1st Gem (& only the 4th for TG04). Neither of us expected this migrant moth in early November but there it was. Perhaps the last NFG of the year but you never know! #cleymothobs

Moth of the day today at CMO was, remarkably, a Single-dotted Wave, a species with a flight period between May to August. This appears to be the 1st ever November record for Norfolk, the latest date listed is October 26 2022 (with two records last month as well). #cleymothobs

After the 1st CMO November record of Single-dotted Wave, last night brought our 1st-ever November Swallow-tailed Moth, resting on the outside of the landing window. Like the SDW, this may well be the latest Norfolk record to date as well (the 1st in November?). #cleymothobs

Three from this morning at Cley Moth Obs ~ a fresh looking Large Wainscot, a rather gorgeous female Feathered Thorn (love her subtle tones) & a smart Black Rustic.

Another new TG04 moth confirmed from CMO! Norfolk's 7th record of Tuta absoluta (that's a lot of fun to say 😁), the Tomato Leaf-miner, caught on 22/09. An adventive species from the Americas, it was 1st recorded in the UK in 2009 w/the 1st for Norfolk seen in 2017. #cleymothobs

Lovely, relaxing Christmas Day wander through the valley. The Cattle Egret showed nicely with Wiveton church as a backdrop. Two Ravens headed south over the Egret, while 2k Pink-feet, Woodcock, 4 Chiffchaffs & 75 Siskins added to a super TG04 selection. #patchbirding
