VICTORY! We went to the NJ Supreme Court with New Jersey Office of the Public Defender to address an unprecedented crisis in our criminal courts from the pandemic – people awaiting trials in jail with no end in sight. We asked the Court to let people challenge this limbo. The Court ruled: they can.

Great decision, but the problem with CJR in NJ is that Courts can detain individuals without bail with a showing of mere probable cause - a very low standard - and the charging decisions are often made by inexperienced prosecutors.

Marijuana will now be legal in NJ. We’re one step closer to ending this unjust, failed war on drugs that has systematically targeted Black & Brown people & the poor across our state & nation. Grateful for Governor Phil Murphy, NJ leadership & advocates who fought so hard for this day.
