1. Rigid grammar rules Never start with “but.” Avoid fragments. Don’t end on a preposition. Sound familiar? I was taught to avoid fragments like the plague, but now I love a well-placed fragment in a story. Ex: She waited. For a sign. For anything. Here, the voice sings!
