LAIR 2023 has officially kicked off, with a welcoming speech by our own Evert Stamhuis and a keynote address by Gillian Hadfield.

Combining discussions on explainability, contestability, and liability - the panel on Accountability and AI is on full swing.

Today, I am starting a two-week research visit to Erasmus University Rotterdam Erasmus School of Law just in time for the Conference on Law, AI, and Regulation (LAIR) on #Law, #AI and #Regulation with many inspiring presentations. I am very grateful for this opportunity.

Regulation by design and the challenges of building technologies and systems that are value-based and socially good. The last panel of the first day ends in fundamental discussion on the relation between design and regulatory objectives.

The second day of LAIR2023 started off with a panel on Platform Governance, touching upon fundamental questions on the role of the "public" in governing the "private".

What are the challenges of governing AI? The panel on AI governance sheds light into the challenges and opportunities from multidisciplinary perspectives.

The 6th and last panel on the EU governance of AI is rolling, with an interesting discussion on the relevance and effectiveness of the AI Act and standardisation processes.
