I marched with families who rely on the Adoption & Special Guardianship Fund to help give their children the best second chance at life. This Government needs to rediscover its moral compass and reverse the cuts #CareNotCuts

At a debate in Parliament today, MPs from all the main parties passionately shared their concerns about the changes to the amount of therapy children in kinship care can access through the adoption and special guardianship support fund (#ASGSF). 🗣️

Yesterday, I spoke in Parliament about the 157 children in kinship care across Lewes and the extraordinary people raising them. These carers save the state billions – but many can’t afford to keep going. It’s time we stepped up for them.

Kinship carers make huge sacrifices to take on the care of a child, with 45% having to stop work. Whilst I am glad that the Government's review will look at statutory paid leave for kinship carers, we cannot afford to have yet more dither and delay.

Later today, Lib Dem peers will vote on a Lib Dem amendment to the Employment Rights Bill which would introduce leave for kinship carers - those who step up to raise a child because the parents are unable to. This is a key Lib Dem campaign. Kinship carers are vital for society.
