Several of the areas The Royal Parks look after or that were policed by the RPC border the River Thames. In WW2, efforts were made to stop the river aiding enemy bombers by camouflaging it! A vessel called Persil helped spread coal dust covered in oil on the surface to hide it!
#BushyPark is one of The Royal Parks & served as the HQ for #SHAEF in #WWII & associated planning for D-Day But there was much more to it than just planning for Op Overlord The Royal Navy also used it to test Torpedo's in a special facility in the park, now a luxury home!
#OTD in 1759 British Army π¬π§ Officer General Wolfe died at the Battle of the Plains of Abraham near Quebec. In Greenwich Park, his statue looks out over the Old Royal Naval College and Canary Wharf to the North. It bears the scars of a WWII bombing raid.
Winfield House in the Regent's Park has just seen the arrival of the U.S. Marines helo with the POTUS onboard. It has been a while since I played a very small part in other Presidential visits, meeting members of the US Secret Service Happy days! πΊπΈ π¬π§ #Marine1
The The Veterans Charity have launched one of their Routes of Remembrance in the past from Hyde Park Corner Taking wreaths from the start point at the Australian War Memorial to the National War Memorial in Canbrrra thanks to a Royal Air Force veteran
Sorting out images, i came across this WWII Tank on the Mall from a VE Day event. The Royal Parks have a rich history of commemorating and remembering military πͺ events throughout history. I do miss policing these events and working in the best best in London.
After the end of the Royal Parks Constabulary in 2004, we now have the death of the Met Police Royal Parks OCU. The Memorial Mob π¬π§ suggested a blue in the green plaque to be installed on the former Police station sites in The Royal Parks, it would be fitting to remember I feel
As part of The The Veterans Charity first Routes of Remembrance ππΈπ’πΈβοΈπΈππΈ (started in 2020) Poppies to Paddington event. I sent a special wreath to the capital from the south west to go on to Brompton cemetery to The Royal Parks war memorial thanks to them and an RAF veteran. Lest we forget
