While Ollie doesn't seem particularly concerned, I find the continued detection of HPAI (H5N1) in cats without known epi links to dairy cattle fairly alarming. Thanks to those that are rapidly testing, sequencing, and sharing data for the ongoing outbreak!

Just added 10 recorded workshop sessions from the The National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine's recent two day workshop on pathogen genomics in public health to the recorded trainings table. Please share and send me other genomic epi trainings I should add!

The windy roads are way more fun. And no career track is straight line, anyway. Seeing opportunities in academia, private industry, and public service,Sharvari Narendra tried it all. Through this journey, she's crafted a creative scientific path that inspires her daily.

So grateful to have presented our findings from a large review project assessing metadata usage in genomic epidemiology at ASM NGS in Washington, DC. We hope this work improves repository submissions by pushing for machine-readable data! (And also improve NCBI mandatory fields)

Alex Sundermann is a scientist I’ve enjoyed learning from. In particular, I’m fascinated by his perspective as a boots-on-the-ground infection preventionist who now works to integrate NGS and bioinformatics in healthcare. His work highlights the undeniable impacts of these
