By chance we happen to be in Guernsey for their channel Islands pride and a woman is pretending to be Madonna and doing a decent job of it. Not stopping though off to find a pub that serves real ale- not easy here.

This is quite a listen. And there's been some kind of split as there's a rival online community station fighting for listeners from a 2,000 population on Alderney. Both trying to book Gladys from the flower festival first, no doubt

So the woman on air at Quay FM, Alderney says her show finishes at 10 but there are tech issues. Duncan has logged in remotely to fix it. If we hear her after 10, it's failed. But the presenter needs to go, ideally. As she has to pick up a table. This is gripping.

Well, St Helier (Jersey) ain't what I had expected- at all, i.e somewhere nice. It's grubby and has the look of the bombed out bits of Plymouth they hurriedly rebuilt after the war. Bergerac's director was clearly selective with establishment shots.

A solid, all local 1:00 p.m. bulletin from BBC Jersey, a rarity for BBC local. A great explainer of a complicated local parliamentary petition process. Radio should promote understanding. Never assume listeners know! Some of ours confuse Dorset Council and the Town Council roles

Channel TV is impressive. A solid half an hour evening programme with lots of on location reports for a TSA the size of Northampton, across several islands. Our local regional is BBC or ITV news is often generic pap. They need to watch this show. It's crafted- like good radio

After the blandest curry ever in Guernsey (I used salt and pepper, a first in a curry house for me) Jaipur in Jersey was superb last night. Last full day in Jersey today. I'll be tuning around in the car :) Quay FM's music is all over the shop-60s to britpop-country in 3 songs🙄

Channel island radio types. Why are there 2 rival stations for Alderney, pop 2K? Is the island split Quay FM/Riduna Radio* - like a Rangers/Celtic thing? It's odd. *Presenter Alexis just claimed 25k listeners. Bollox.... In the meantime, here's the BBC.

I had a flashback to my ten years on Scilly, listening to the woman on Alderney's Riduna Radio. "The Trinity has sailed, so we have fresh food." I coped with ten winters of empty Co-op shelves. That, I don't miss. Feels a bit of a parallel universe.

Oddest thing I've heard this trip. A station replaying a show- not unusual - but with a disclaimer at the statr that the show will feature national news, weather and boat info (guess where) that's old and inaccurate. WTF?

RIP Carl Kingston. He did the 'yoof' 'Paull Hunsley Electric Wireless Show'- oddly named after their transmitter site at BBC Humberside when I started doing stuff there. Then we worked at Aire before he went to, I think, Sacramento. A true radio pro.

Overhead conversation of the night in a shaftesbury pub- somebody said they are here working at the cheese festival nearby and they're from Manchester. " What do you mean Manchester? All cheese comes from Cheddar doesn't it?"

Why's Descript never consistent? Yesterday, when I recorded my voice into the workspace, it transcribed on the fly, making inserting voicers easy. Now it's reverted to transcribing as if it's an inserted file taking 60 secs, to transcribe 15 secs of voicer. Keeps changing!

That moment when you edit a bumbling politician in order to make acceptable radio- cursing their stumbles after an 1hr on Hindenburg - you question whether you should let the public hear how incoherent they are- & a listener says, heard X, they're such a good speaker! 😕

In rural Dorset, this vehicle is just a weekend runaround. There are classic vintage cars at this show. This is in the car park, however.

This is why we do it-a happy listener. Two days after our report on locals who complained of months of life-ruining noise caused by a supermarket air conditioning unit, the noise stopped. The company got in touch with residents, too- after we contacted the press office. Result

Listeners think you just turn up and chat. This many edits required to make an interviewee coherent. Phew.
