Disguise the fact as we may, great movements owe their success to great personalties.

The I.L.P. signifies a revolt against the assumption that working people are in any sense inferior, either mentally or morally, to any other section of the community.

What is the cause of war? You have no quarrel with Germany. German workmen have no quarrel with their French comrades. The French worker has no quarrel with his Austrian comrades. If that be so, why are we on the verge of the greatest calamity Europe has ever seen?

Why should a Labour man be timid on the hustings? The Labour man enters the contest with the advanced men behind his back, and feels that his business is to win over the cautious and timid electors to his side.

I would resist any attempt to again impose Protection in any shape or form on the trade and commerce of our country. It would aggravate every social and industrial evil and divert the minds of the workers from what I believe to be the true solution of this problem.

Under Socialism, coal mining and coal selling, the raising of food, manufacture of clothing and furniture, and the building of houses and the like, would all be conducted on the same principle, the supply of the necessaries of life for the community.
