I am alarmed by reports of police using excessive and disproportionate force this morning, including rubber bullets, OC spray, explosions and possibly tear gas. The right to protest is fundamental to our society and Labor should swiftly reconsider their sponsorship of this event.

The Victorian Greens and I have demanded an independent inquiry into Victoria Police tactics and excessive use of force at the Land Forces protests in Melbourne today.

Dr Tim Read MP Samantha Ratnam Sam Hibbins Aiv Puglielli MP Gabrielle de Vietri We have seen police throw flash grenades into crowds of protestors, use pepper spray indiscriminately, and whip people with horse whip. These are military-style tactics used by police against protestors who are trying to have their say, as is their democratic right.

Dr Tim Read MP Samantha Ratnam Sam Hibbins Aiv Puglielli MP Gabrielle de Vietri Victoria Police have a history of excessive force and pepper spray, and it's time they were called out for it, because everyone has a right to attend a protest without fear that the police will use violence against them.

The PM’s social media ban for 16yr olds lets the big tech companies off the hook. It does nothing to force social media platforms to be safer, does nothing to stop their dangerous algorithms or targeted advertising. It’s knee-jerk and lacks substance.

The PM says teenagers are too young for TikTok but not too young to be bombarded with gambling ads… 🤔 Too young for Snapchat but not too young for sport bets ads….

I was proud to stand with families and staff from Windsor Community Children’s Centre on the steps of parliament yesterday. We’re calling on Victorian Labor to protect public land, say no to rezoning and save this vital and vibrant community asset!

The Greens used our power in Parliament to strengthen climate policy! A Bill putting the State Electricity Commission (SEC) into our constitution passed this week with Greens amendments that ensure it will only be used to drive investment in renewables or lower power prices.

If you're a regular train user at Southern Cross, chances are you've experienced poor air quality, broken escalators, or dirty dunnies. Let the Department know about it, they are currently seeking feedback here: qrs.ly/qqfmiel

Vibrant local childcare centres in Southern Metro are under threat of closure - they have enough dedicated staff, but they’re having their premises sold out from under them. The government needs to intervene and ensure they can continue to operate.

The housing crisis is breaking people. But instead of taking meaningful action, Labor are trying to mislead the public about votes in the Senate and threatening to take the country to the polls. I thought the adults were in charge.

Labor has two months to negotiate on housing. The Greens want Labor to negotiate seriously on their Help to Buy legislation, or face the consequences of failing to help renters and first home buyers during this Parliament.

These two things are true: 1. Storing carbon in old wells & pipes in the ocean has been a colossal failure around the world 2. The Vic Labor Gov't has said fossil fuel giant ESSO can begin carbon capture & storage in Vic oceans without doing an environmental assessment (EES)

The Government released a timeline for the Upfield Level Crossing Removal Project this morning. A good sign the project hasn’t been shelved, although I’m concerned there’s no mention of improved train frequency. 20 minutes between services is just not good enough. 🧵

Dr Tim Read MP (@timrread) 's Twitter Profile Photo

Labor will also remove three train stations & replace them with just two, despite council objections. The extra distance may not be an issue for many, but without accessible tram stops the disability community rely on the Upfield & this may make the line less accessible (2/5)

Given Labor now have a timeline for works, I expect to see a plan to upgrade Sydney Road with accessible tram stops prior to the line closing so that those with all mobility needs are able to access public transport in the area. Not to mention a separated bike lane… (3/5)

Dr Tim Read MP (@timrread) 's Twitter Profile Photo

The Upfield bike path sees around 2500 trips a day. Neither cyclists nor cars want to see a few thousand extra commuters on Sydney Road each day, especially given the condition of the current bike lane (if you can call it that). (4/5)

Dr Tim Read MP (@timrread) 's Twitter Profile Photo

I look forward to the improved bike path & open space. Consultation on this project is now open and I encourage everyone to participate. I’ll be pushing to ensure they undergo genuine consultation to make sure this project fits the needs of our community. engage.vic.gov.au/lxrp-brunswick…
