This seems right. To me this means we need to seed a limited but strong grounding of factual knowledge, but go deeper, explicitly demonstrating learning processes while maintaining an env of humble, curious inquiry, so the process can be applied beyond the explicit curriculum.

The suggested 20 year timeline seems very likely. However that period of time will be long enough to demonstrate the efficacy of other ways of teaching and learning that modernizes and re-humanizes the field of education. So still worth it.

While I don't think we should view every "learning" experience like this, I DO believe we should practice this in educational settings. If you want kids to learn certain things, you better make darn sure you do it well, otherwise you're breaking rule #1: Don't waste kids' time.

It's unconventional in alt ed circles to support standardized testing, but I'm on board! The problem is that the information isn't used to help support the individual student and that the prep and administration of it crowds out time that could be better spent.

Curiosity is a form of caring. Children are very caring and curious as they have fewer preconceived notions and expectations. Deviations from telling what is going to happen next (ie by explaining "why") are often frustrations as they are roadblocks in the way of the story.
